Things to Do in Naples

Naples is the sprawling, chaotic gateway to the Gulf of Naples and the Amalfi Coast, its UNESCO-listed historic center a tangle of narrow alleys, baroque churches, and street-food stalls selling the pizza this city invented. Beneath the streets lies Napoli Sotterranea, a network of Greek-Roman aqueducts and wartime bomb shelters open for guided tours. Most visitors also use Naples as a springboard for day trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and the smoking cone of Vesuvius that buried them both.
